Entry for July 23, 2007

  Temp 74 79% humidity High 84

Here is the progress on "Northern Shield" I am going to finish the row of pine trees, then I am going start on "Great Lakes Lowland". Maybe I will be more inclined to stitch if I have a couple of different things to stitch on.

Greg went to an auction last weekend and paid the sum total of $5 for this

It is a Goodrich "B" treadle sewing machine and cabinet. It has obviously been stored in a garage, shed or barn for quite some time. The finish is in bad shape where it is exposed, the laminate is coming up on the lid, which also has a small split, and the drawers need some minor repair. Oh, and there are all the old mud dauber nests I have had to remove Most of the machine works. What I assume is the bobbin winder is completely siezed up with rust, as is the stitch regulator. But when you turn the handwheel, the needle and the bobbin moves and the treadle works just fine. Even if I don't use the machine, I thought the cabinet, once refinished and the iron sandblasted and repainted or powdercoated, would be a really pretty piece to have. Maybe I could pick up another machine, in better condition sometime. If you want to see more pictures, here ya go: http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/559996525aBKioB I have done a basic cleaning and I will be posting pictures as I progress on it.

Not much else going on here. We are driving the kids to Denver around the 3rd and staying overnight at Maurya's and Craigs and then Bill & Ruth Ann are driving them back sometime around the 13th. They are going to try and arrange for Linda and Jim to come up when they are here and visit, too. No kids for a week Except we are going to be doing home repair, fixing the bathroom floor and painting the kids' rooms. Lots of work but it would be so much easier without all the help.

I guess I should wrap up here if I intend on stitching and reading this evening. Take care!
