One more knocked out

Found this cork print material for Greg a year or so ago and had the pattern all cut out before we moved.  He has lost enough weight that he can wear it and I had a good place to sit and finish it, so I finally got it done for him.  I hope he enjoys it!

Got another project or two done.

I have been able to finally get these shirts done for the kids.  I was waiting for the thread that is on the inside of the eyes, nose and mouth.  It glows in the dark, brightly and for quite a while if you let it sit in the light.  i am thinking I may do some more gifts for family this year.

I had a birthday earlier this week.  I got a gift card for the LNS in Littleton, FanciMats.  I haven't been there.  The day I planned on going, I was going to go to the African Violet shop in Englewood.  But, I didn't pay any attention and Violet Showcase is closed on Tuesday.  I got annoyed with myself and went home.  So, tomorrow, I plan on dropping the kids off at school and heading over to  Littleton.  Not sure if I will get anything, but it will be nice to browse.

My Aunt Lu sent me a charm bracelet that I believe was my Grandma's.  It has charms with pictures of all the grand kids and two of the families.  And my Grandma's nursing pin.

I also got to talk to two of my best friends, Susan and Joan.  I miss them both and have been trying to make a concerted effort to keep in touch.

Not much else going on.  Lil Miss is now riding her bike sans training wheels, and really starting to pick up on her reading.   Greg is enjoying his job, but is working too hard sometimes.  Patrick and Bekah both made the academic achievement board (like the honor roll).  We have conferences tomorrow so I will be able to get a more complete picture.

Well, I guess that's all I have going on.  Talk to you all later.

Patrick's Birthday!

Start:     Sep 29, '10 02:00a

Finally got it done

I finally got my SIL's blanket done.  It took me that long to get my stuff together enough to go get the right colors.  I hope she likes it.  We are supposed to drive to Ruth Ann's tomorrow and I am going to bring this along on the off chance that Maurya is going to be there.  If not I'll see if I can run it over on Monday.

I have been brainstorming ideas for Christmas.  I have half a dozen ideas or so and most of them involve my machine.  I would post here, but I don't want to give things away.    I guess that is really all I have to say at the moment.  Take it easy everyone!

Machine embroidery

I am on a roll..

A dress my MIL bought for Mariska that I thought could use some embellishment.  I found a freebie design on the Brother website and stitched it out today.  This is the first article of clothing I have done.  Next time I do this pattern, if I do, I will use a slightly brighter pink.

Here is a closeup of the design.  I am thinking I may find some pretty pink ribbon or ric rac and add it to the seam above the bottom ruffle.  Or maybe some pink material added as an under ruffle?  Or maybe just leave well enough alone.

I have to admit, this was inspired a little by this woman's blog.  Although I don't think all of her stuff is a hit, I liked the idea.  http://newdressaday.wordpress.com/

August 18,2010

This is the birthday present I got done for my mother in law.  It was embroidered on a relatively inexpensive blanket from WM, with a pattern I found on line.  I have never really used my machine to its full capabilities. I am very pleased with the pattern of the Rottweiler I found.  It looks a lot like Max.

Next, is the present for one of my three best friends in the world, Deb.  Its another WM blanket, but this one is really fluffy.  I need to get it dropped in to the mail really soon as this is already late... I hope this makes up for it and that she gets lots of good use and enjoyment out of it.

Its looking like the washer is going to have to be replaced sooner, rather than later.  It has started leaking, just a bit, from underneath.  After each load, I move it out and run a  mop underneath it.  So I have started "window' shopping for a washer.  I would love to run into a great deal like I found with the dryer, but I am not going to hold my breath.

The kids have been in school since Aug 4th and they seem to be settling in well.  They have friends in the neighborhood, twin boys from two doors down and multiple friends around the corner on the cul de sac.    It is nice that they have so many kids living near us.  There just weren't that many kids around our house and Wellington seemed a bit more insular and clique-y.

Greg is liking his job, I think.  He isn't gushing like he did with Shepler's (before MB was hired).  He has had to adjust to being a consultant  Not quite the working experience he is used to, but he is adjusting.  Aside from work, he is really happy to be able to watch his Broncos.  Me, I am biding my time for the Av's season to start.  Just about a month until pre season!!

I guess I should let this go for now, I have to pick up the kitchen and I would like to get the water changed on the fish.

One month later...

The move went as smoothly as it could have.  In hindsight, there are always things you wish you could do differently.  Not everything is unpacked, but everything we need is.  We need to pick up some bookcases and I need to thin out clothing.  There are still bits and odds and ends that need to come in and they are, little by little.

Money has been a little tight because along with a move, we have to replace a dryer.   There was a washer and dryer in the house when we got here, but the dryer did not work.  We called the mgnt company only to find out they were abandoned by the previous tenants, and were not included in the lease.  So we would have to replace it.  So one day, after Greg got the reimbursement check for the move, we went to some of the stores, pricing.  We went into Best Buy on a whim and found a Maytag Bravos that was open box, and one tiny dent near the bottom, and was black.  The original price was almost $1100, but it was going for $500.  Couldn't quite pass that up.  So now am the proud owner of one of these.  I have been very happy with it so far.

The kids start school on the 4th!  I was so shocked.  They seem to have more time off during the year and get out the same time that Wellington schools do.  We haven't done too much exploring of Denver yet, but we did find the library.  I am hoping next week to explore a little more.  When the kids have their week off in October I would like to take them to the Denver Art Museum.  They have a King Tut exhibit visiting through January.  Then there is always the Natural History museum and the zoo.

I haven't been doing much stitching.  I was working on tatting for a while and now I am fixing Patrick's bankie.   I had originally crocheted it for Rebekah before she was born, but it was a bit warm for a baby born in April and I ended up using a different blanket.  When Patrick was born in late September, this came in really handy.  It is a ripple pattern and he had chewed on a couple of points and it was unravelling from the foundation end.  Thankfully I still had some of the yarn I used and I can fix it.  When I finish it, I will be making curtains for the bedrooms, unless I find some sweet deals somewhere.

I guess that's really all there is to update.  Will talk to you all later!

Tatting

Just need to take care of the ends, my least favorite part of any project

Wow, two in one month!!!!!

Here?

Or here?

Or staying here?  What will it be.  I know the ones I am rooting for.  No more flatlander status!  I am just ready to have the whole up in the air thing over.  I am hating seeing Greg all stressed out.

Me, I am stressed, but I get to get out of the house and get away from the kids, or the chatterbox child.  And I have been doing my tatting to try and keep myself occupied  I finished the first bookmark and have started a second.  I am still learning and getting more comfortable.

Other than that I have been reading the Southern Vampire Mystery series by Charlaine Harris, the basis for the HBO show True Blood.  Its what I think of as an adult Twilight.

Finally, Congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks!!  If its not going to be my Av's, they were due!

It is June, already!

Its has been a very busy spring around here.  Lots of things going on, but I will try and be brief.

I have gone back to F/T at the hospital for the foreseeable future.  Due to some circumstances that I can't totally discuss here, I went to F/T and related to that, we may or may not be relocating to the Seattle or Omaha areas.  It just depends on how things pan out.  I think I would enjoy Seattle, more than Omaha, but I would prefer to not move at all right now

Up above you see my attempts to teach myself to tat.  I had some of the basics down, but this is the first "big" project for me.  Its going to be a bookmark, when and if I get it done.  My consistency with the picots needs some work and I am just now starting to get the muscle memory for the actual tatting movements.

The kids played soccer this year  Mariska was just instructional, but Bekah and Patrick were both on teams.  They did pretty well.  Patrick really has improved over last year.  I think the medication helped that, too.  I know it helped his schooling immensely!  He got a really good social and behavior report and all A's.  Bekah had all A's except one in Math, and she brought that up from a B- to a B+.  She struggles with some of the same things I did.  She understands the concepts for the greatest part, but has trouble with small errors, carried through the problem, and not being neater so she loses her answer.  Mariska has had some behavior issues as far as not using her time wisely or taking care of her stuff, but I hope that another year will show some improvement.

I know this is very short, but I need to hit the hay.  I will check in again tomorrow after I wake up and read up on others' blogs.  Night all!

Not a lot to report

The weather here has been pretty nice the past couple of days.  In the 60's and sunny.  Its been really nice to have the windows open during the day and to be able to get the washing out on the line.  Its supposed to be in the upper 70's next week.  I am glad it is going to start being nice.

I went and got the kids signed up for soccer this season.  Two in regular soccer and one in instructional.  Gonna be a busy spring for me.

I am again hooked up with a cell phone.  Its been almost three years since I had one.  No more hiding from people. lol

The Avs haven't been doing so well since the Olympic break.  Been a bit disappointed.  They traded away Wolski and I think that is part of the problem.  I do like Yelle back, but I am wondering about the  trade.

Boca Raton???  Idaho Falls?????  Neither??? We will have to see.

Well, since I haven't had the time to stitch, I guess I will cut this short now.  Hope you all have wonderful weekends!

No cross stitch

I just have not been doing cross stitch for a while.  I took a break and did some embroidery for the girls.  At the left is the pillowcase I did for Rebekah.  It has been so long since I did regular embroidery it was a nice break and change of pace.  A getting back to my roots in a way as my Grandma taught me to embroider when I was small.  Took me for ever to get the concept of going down on one side and coming back up through the material, not going around the hoop and going back down, lol.  I have started stitching on  Victoria Sampler's "Butterfly Garden Sampler" and I hope to take a picture and post it when I have more than just 50 or so stitches done.

The weather has been ok lately, but no sun.  this is the first time the sun has been hidden for the past week or so, but it finally made an appearance today.  Looks like we are going to get one more small blast of wintery weather this weekend.  I am hoping it doesn't damage my iris.  It would be nice to have some blooms this year.

I have become addicted to facebook and the games.  That is the biggest reason I have been neglecting this lately.  I am going to schedule time to update and keep updated on this.  I have some friends on here I shouldn't let slip by, just because I spend too much time with Mafia Wars, lol.

There is not much else new going on here.  Just the same ol' same ol'.  I don't think I ever posted about Lefty.  He is our newest cat.  Yes, like we needed another.  We found this starving, flea-ridden, wormy little kitten in my in-laws entry way and I couldn't let my FIL take it to the local vet who handles the animal control.  He would have just put him down.  So I brought him home, de wormed him, de flea-ed him and fattened him up.  He is probably close to a year old now and getting better about sharing food.  He is a sweetie.  We called him Lefty as a joke.  He looks alot like CG, just not as fluffy.  I made the comment that it would be great to have gloves with fur like his in the.  Greg said he was going to make gloves out of CG and the new cat, CG would be the right hand and kitten would be the left, so he is now named Lefty.  He seems to be settling in pretty well, don' t you think?
